"Transformers 2" Superbowl

Not only did a new commercial for "Star Trek" appear during the Superbowl last week, but the very first images from "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" landed on television screens. Head over to Apple's Quicktime page to view the new commercial in HD.

These four still frames were chosen by the Randomizer 2009™ software, featuring ArbitraryBoost 3.0.

  1. The VFX look absolutely stupendous! They're great, despite being unfinished and not-yet completey rendered!

The CG cars in the last shot could use some work, though. Even though people won't be looking at the cars in the movie.

As I said in the Star Trek article, my predictions for the 2009 VFX Oscar are:

    "Avatar"
    "Star Trek"
    "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen"

    Come on "Transformers", come on!!!!

Yes, very good. I have heard rumour that this is an enormous show for ILM, hope that the quality can be maintained throughout. I guess most of ILM staff are on this show or Terminator right now. They seem to be the only films ILM have this year. Trek and Potter were for last year so already finished.

In terminator 4 they're trying to render a cg Arnold, or am i wrong?

If it will be done well, terminator could have a bigger chance than star trek for 2009 vfx oscar.

Yeah, ther's a cg Arnold in Terminator, as he looked in 1984, which makes sense. ILM have to match the realism that Benjamin Button has achieved, though the performance issues are not nearly as complicated.

With Mark Chu as animation supe I am confident they will pull it off.

if Arnold will be all cg(body included) could be a terrific task and a great risk too.

  6. This is a titanic year for ILM!

    -Star Trek
    -Terminator Salvation
    -Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
-Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

There is a few other smaller films that ILM is working on, but frankly, no one cares about "Red Tails" and "Confessions of a Shopoholic", when you have THESE films to look forward to. :D

Michael Bay and Scott Farrar have said that there will be more close-ups of the Transformers' faces and that they can convey more emotion. Sweet!
